Prescription Compounding

Apothecare Pharmacy offers a wide array of compounding services and products. Years of experience have made us an industry leading compounding pharmacy. Our skilled pharmacists will carefully work with both you and your physician to understand your specific needs. We understand that many conditions cannot be effectively treated using conventional, commercially available preparations. We recommend unique solutions for these often difficult to treat conditions.

The resources we have invested in our new state-of-the-art compounding lab has allowed us to produce the highest quality preparations available. This is a service that most pharmacies today are unable to offer. Here are some examples of the various types of compounding we can perform:

  • Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy
Hormone replacement therapy is most often used for menopause. Women have traditionally used synthetic estrogen therapy to treat menopausal symptoms and to protect against osteoporosis. We recognize that each woman is different and therefore requires individualized dosing for estrogen and progesterone that may not be available from a commercially available product. In collaboration with your physician, we can prepare a unique medication that is customized to your specific needs.
  • Veterinary compounding
We understand how difficult trying to medicate your beloved pet can be. Our pharmacists can recommend creative dosage forms and flavorings that are geared towards easing administration for pet owners.
  • Pediatric compounding
There are many challenges you face when caring for a sick child. Getting them to take their medication should not be one of them. Many medications are not manufactured with children in mind. They may taste terrible, have an unappealing texture or odor, or may be difficult to swallow. Through compounding, we are able to produce palatable alternatives to foul tasting medication. We can also create unique dosage forms, such as lollipops or lozenges, for medications that would otherwise have to be swallowed.
  • Hospice compounding
Towards the end of life, many patients are unable to swallow, greatly reducing treatment options for often distressing symptoms. Through compounding, we are able to create alternate routes of administration, providing relief for these otherwise untreatable conditions.
  • Pain Management compounding
Many commonly prescribed pain relief medications can cause various unwanted side effects. Through compounding, we can prepare a gel or cream that is applied topically, and therefore delivers the medication directly to the painful site, often eliminating or greatly reducing side effects. By selecting the appropriate vehicle, we can customize the mediation to produce a local, topical effect, or a systemic effect.
